Ylva has Given Birth

Ocicat kittens

IC S*Vargagaarden's Ylva Lorena has born four kittens. The birth completed without any complications. See pictures and the lastest news on www.ocicat.dk.

She started at 3:30 PM and the fourth kittens was born at 8 PM. It was her first birth and she did very well.
Ylva went to her birth box - just as in the textbook.
The first thing to appear was a cheeky bristling tail, which belonged to the first very energetic kitten. It was born with tail and hind legs first. We sat as two nervous midwifes and looked at the tail and the small hind legs with their claws and almost held our breath for the duration of the birth of the first kitten and until we were cetain that it was breathing as it should.
The two next kittens were born with the head first and it was a lot easier for Ylva. Kitten number one was here, there and everywhere while the two next kittens were arriving. Ylva did everything herself, licked the kittens, cut the umbillical cord etc etc. We were kindly allowed to dry them a bit and provide a new dry blanket.. All we had to do was to stroke her gently.

Then Ylva took a break and silence prevailed for half an hour. The three kittens found each their own breast and fell asleep.
Grand mother Kira were allowed in to have a peek from AFAR. She looked once, hissed and left again. Ylva acted serenely, look up and then continued to sleep.
Cato is kept FAR away. He is much too curious.

After a break the fourth spotted ocicat kitten emerged and Ylva was a happy mother. Now all the kittens are lying and sucking.
We are so proud. Ylva is resting and enjoying life with her ocicat kittens.

Cato has become Supreme Champion

Cato has become Supreme Champion (SC)

On the DARAK show Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th November 2009 our ocicat Cato managed to secure the last two certificates in tough competition and he is now Supreme Champion.

The certificates were given by Vesna Riznar-Resetic and Mira Fonsén. This is a very good way to end the year of cat shows. We will take a break from showing - at least until next year, and let SC DK Jakobscat's Cato have a well deserved break and let our ocicat enjoy being supreme champion.

Who are we ?

We are devoted cat lovers and have previously had an "ordinary" cat. When she sadly died we took a time-out from cats while we decided what to do. For some time we had played with the thought of buying a pedigree cat.

In October 2007 we took the step and went looking for the right cat. This was a process that had been ongoing for at least the last year. So our entry into predigree cats was well thought through. We take the responsibility of breeding seriously and follows the breeder course programme from Racekatten. We are active members of both Racekatten and Dansk Ocicat Klub. Frank Mandix is a board member of Racekatten, and he is also a former board member of Dansk Ocicat Klub.

Why Ocicats ?

As a breeder you have a wide variety of cat races to select. While the long hair races are beautiful they also require a lot of care, hence we went for a short hair.We considered 3 races:

  • Abyssinian
  • Bengal
  • Ocicat
We ended up selecting ocicats as they are very beautiful, active and intelligent. Our friends call them "our small lepards", which sums it up pretty nicely.

Our Cats

Pciture of our two cats Kira and Cato

Currently we have three wonderful ocicats. Kira, to the left, is an adult neuteret female and mother to Cato (to the right), who is about 5 months old. Cato's father is Vargagården's Mad Max. They were both bought from Jakobscat in November 2007.
Mad Max is IC and Kira is also IC. So far Cato has achived two EX1's. To see the details go to results. You can find more pictures in the gallery section.
